Principal's Corner

Greetings Students, Parents, Faculty, and Staff:

It is with pleasure that I continue to serve as Principal of Hillview Elementary School for the 2015-2016 school years. We had a noteworthy 2014-2015 school year and we are expecting an even grander year this time. I am proud to say Hillview’s faculty and staff stands ready alongside each parent to make sure our students’ academic success be attainable through our synergistic efforts. Previously, we are so proud and honored that Hillview received one of the State of Alabama’s highest Educational Awards of Achievement. Hillview along with nineteen other schools in the entire State was awarded with TORCHBEARER School Status for exemplary student achievement. This was a shared accomplishment with the entire community, school staff, and our awesome student body. I, along with the help of our faculty and staff, stand ready to continue this journey of advancement here at Hillview Elementary School.

Most recently, Hillview Elementary was honored to have been selected as one of the schools to receive a visit from the Advanced Ed accreditation team in April, 2014. We received accolades and a follow up letter from one of the team members which echoed their excitement about Hillview’s alignment with the Advanced Ed Accreditation Standards and that learning is paramount at our school. We were featured in a photo on the district’s website.

Jefferson County’s 3 strategic goals are to prepare students to be college and career ready, to improve organizational effectiveness to support student learning, and to support a positive and collaborative learning culture. Our school’s goals, mission, vision, culture and climate are purposefully aligned with our district’s goals.

My extended vision, which aligns with our district’s vision, is to ensure that we have daily active engagement in teaching and learning. Secondly, but most importantly, my vision is to continue to have a safe and secure environment within which to cultivate our magnificent students. Lastly, my vision is to encourage a continued obligation to a culture of collaboration. I envision having parents, community leaders, and all stakeholders continue to share in our educational process. We need increased community involvement and parent involvement. We need to extend our capacity to educate collaboratively. It takes a village to accomplish these goals and prepare our students now to become career and college ready. Our students’ trajectory towards college and career readiness begins in elementary school.

The school and district also uses the Information Now System, which is an electronic tool that parents and teachers can use to communicate grades and current student progress. INow can be accessed from home computers. Please remember to sign up for Hillview’s PTA and school volunteer list. We need 100% participation. Our office hours are 8:00 a.m. thru 3:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday.

Hillview’s Implied Motto: TEAMWORK – When the Best and the Brightest come together, the possibilities are endless.
